Essential concrete goods and helpful information about local resources can be difficult for families to find. Last week Amara opened our new Family Resource Center in our Tacoma office. On our first day we provided groceries for a family and provided housing resources to help keep another family in their home.
By providing families with what they need, including food, baby necessities, clothing, and connections to parenting supports, our Resource Center can help families stabilize, so they can focus on learning, growing, and healing. It’s a single point of entry to a range of services for families, helping them meet immediate needs and connect to other resources that can help them long term.
“I am happy to be able to help the community I grew up in. This is my opportunity to give back,” said Michelle Perry, Family Advocate and Strive Navigator at Amara.
Amara’s food pantry in our Resource Center is made possible by Eloise’s Cooking Pot, run by the Making a Difference Foundation in Tacoma. This amazing nonprofit provides food to thousands of people who do not have to “qualify” to receive help. We are grateful for them and for state and federal grant funding that allows us to run the Resource Center. We are also grateful for our donors for their generous donations of concrete goods like clothing and toys.
