Thank you to everyone who made our Through the Foster Lens event so wonderful! The Titlow Lodge was filled with warmth, caring, and so many connections: connection with one another, connection with Amara’s new CEO Fahren Johnson, and connection to our work with children and families.
The photos shared by people with lived experience in foster care allowed us to reflect on the emotions behind each one, so we could understand the life-long impact foster care has on everyone connected to each foster care story. Every heartfelt photo was moving in its own unique way. Thank you to all who so graciously shared their photos. We were honored to host Through the Foster Lens and share these photos with our community of supporters.
Special thanks to our new CEO Fahren Johnson who shared her personal experience in foster care and how love, belonging, and connection to opportunities and community helped her rise and shine. Fahren’s years of advocacy for children, youth and families will help Amara ensure that the voices of children and families are not just heard, but that they have agency in helping to design what they need to thrive.
“When it comes to how we change the foster care system for the better, community really is the recovery plan. I have heard many youth and community members say, that more than a program, we need community,” Fahren said.
If you missed Through the Foster Lens – no worries! There will be plenty of other opportunities for you to get connected to our work of bringing healing and change to the foster care system. And if you’d like to take advantage of the special match opportunity for monthly gifts of $10 or more, there’s still time. Simply make a gift online and select the “Recurring” option.
At Amara, everything we do is about connection – connections for families, connections to community, and connection to our work to help reduce the trauma of the foster care system. Thank you to everyone who generously supports Amara’s work. Your impact is felt throughout our programs to help children and families heal, and we couldn’t do this work without you.
