Today and every day, Amara affirms its unwavering commitment to bringing healing to the child welfare space. As an open and affirming nonprofit serving some of our community’s most vulnerable people, our purpose will continue to guide us forward together. Our support for children, youth, families and for our entire community remains steadfast no matter what the future holds.
Every day we will continue to wrap services and supports around every child and family we serve, as we seek to reduce the trauma too many of them have experienced. We know that healing from trauma requires connections to families, friends, resources, culture, and communities of support. Changes in “the other Washington” will not distract us.
We recognize that our beloved BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ families and children may experience greater inequities, bias, and even harm in the coming years. We are committed to keeping our spaces and work free from these harms and we will continue to be a hopeful, vibrant community that lifts people up. As always, we invite you to join us. If you have ideas about ways we can “be there” for people involved in child welfare, or at risk of becoming involved, we welcome your suggestions. Please email your ideas to us at amaracomms@amarafamily.org.
We are, and always will be, better together.
Today, our offices are closed, as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His dream continues to be active throughout our community, and I am proud to be one of the many humans who gets to reap the benefits of his important human rights work to this day. Stay tuned to learn about some of our favorite Black leaders during Black History Month next month! ~ Fahren Johnson
