This is one parent’s story of overcoming the challenges that come with having their children being placed in foster care, and their journey to reunite their family.
Ashton* had no idea how far they could go on a journey toward healing for their children and themself. But they were able to connect with their kids’ Amara caregivers because Amara helps caregivers and parents connect to build a collaborative relationship. In some cases, parents and caregivers become friends and the caregivers continue to support parents post reunification.
As the case moved forward, Ashton and the caregivers formed a supportive relationship together, and over time, Ashton was able to reunite with their kids. Several months after reuniting, the State Department of Children, Youth, and Families closed the dependency case, and Ashton’s new friends shared their testimony of witnessing Ashton’s positive journey to reunification with their children. They all consider themselves family now, and everyone is doing well.
