What an incredible day we shared yesterday! Together with members of our supportive community, we celebrated the groundbreaking for our transformational remodel that will help us better serve children, youth, and families in Pierce County.
All of us at Amara are thrilled to see this community-driven dream move forward as our space in Tacoma becomes more family- and youth-centered. What began in 2018 as a dream informed by hundreds of people, including the Puyallup Tribe, Pierce County, and people with lived experience in child welfare, is now on the threshold of becoming reality.
Once the remodel is complete later this year, families will find larger, brighter, and more inclusive spaces offering expanded services, including a free “thrift store.” Youth attending our free drop-in center and other programming will enjoy fun new zones designed with them in mind, including an art studio. There will be places to play, gather, connect, and celebrate.
None of this would be possible without the extraordinary support of hundreds of people, from those who helped build our dream at the beginning of this journey, to those who helped Amara secure the funding to make it happen, to the many people and partners who guided the work each step of the way. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved.
