The Staff Accountant works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and other administrative staff to maintain accurate and complete financial records for the organization. You will have the responsibility of performing the general ledger accounting, accounts receivable, reviewing accounts payable transactions, processing payroll, and assisting with financial reporting. This position will cross train and provide backup for accounts payable and administrative support for some program services.

Responsibilities

The Staff Accountant reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with the  Administration, Development, and Program teams. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Full cycle accounting and recording of daily financial transactions including cash, A/R, and payroll in the financial system
  • Provide timely and accurate payment processing by processing invoices and receiving and depositing revenue in a timely manner
  • Monthly and quarterly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including reconciling all bank accounts & management of month end close
  • Assist in producing accurate and timely monthly financial statements for presentation to management and the Board of Directors
  • Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies, internal controls, and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes
  • Prepare tax reporting including 1099s, WA State DOR tax filings, and others as needed
  • Maintain fixed assets records, update regularly as needed
  • Assist with grant reporting as assigned
  • Assist with annual audit and third-party financial requests as assigned
  • Assist in annual budgeting process and research and respond to financial questions for program staff and budget owners throughout the year
  • Take on additional projects and tasks that support the work of the using your initiative, flexibility, and good judgement
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of electronic and paper documents and financial information
  • Maintain a professional and positive working relationship with clients, vendors, volunteers, donors, and fellow staff 

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in business, accounting, or related field; work experience may be substituted with demonstrated ability to understand accounting work
  • At least three to five years full cycle accounting experience required
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles and nonprofit accounting
  • Experience with QuickBooks necessary.
  • Ability to quickly perform routine tasks with consistent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong background in excel and working with various formulas including If, Vlookup, Pivot Tables, etc.
  • Ability to multitask and has initiative to take assigned tasks to the next level
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High energy and demonstrated ability to problem solve and use logic and available resources

Salary and Benefits

Annual salary range of $55,000-$65,000 DOE. Generous personal leave and benefits package, including paid time off, paid sabbatical, health, vision and dental insurance, 401k with a company match, life, and disability insurance. The successful candidate will have flexibility to work-from-home and will have office space in one of our locations in Pierce or King County.
