Dreaming Big in Pierce County – An Update

When Amara wrapped up the first phase of our Community Engagement Process where we directly engaged people with lived experience with the foster care system about how we could best leverage our undeveloped land in Pierce County, we had no idea a global pandemic was just around the corner, about to turn the world on its head.  After a brief pause, we’re ready to start the next phase – and we’ll need you with us.

Mourning Ma’Khia Bryant, Making Change

Amara mourns the death of Ma’Khia Bryant, a 16-year-old girl in foster care, who was tragically killed by a police officer in Ohio this month. We are devastated and share in the collective grief of a nation over this senseless loss of life.

Solidarity With Our Asian-American Community

We stand in solidarity with Amara’s Asian-American staff, as well as the children and families with whom we work, and are horrified by the escalating anti-Asian violence in the US. Since the start of the COVID pandemic, there has been a staggering increase in racist and xenophobic attacks against Asian-Americans in the United States and much of it leveled against elderly people.
