Initiatives Overview

Status quo? Not at Amara.

We work every day to improve the experiences of children in foster care, adoptees, and their families. Our initiatives center the voices and experiences of people directly impacted by child welfare and adoption as we work together to boldly pursue new solutions to long-standing and systemic challenges. Meaningful change doesn’t happen without learning and we hold ourselves accountable to our community every step of the way. Our generous supporters make it possible for us to push the boundaries of what is possible as we lead the way in strengthening families and ending the cycle of family separation. Will you join us?

Reimagining Child Welfare in Pierce County

In 2018, Amara purchased 29 acres in Pierce County seeing it as a key moment to build something for –and with – children and families who are at risk of experiencing foster care, not just once they’re a part of the child welfare system but to support their wellbeing and prevent separation. It takes a community for children and families to thrive – and the community has come together, through an extensive community engagement effort, to help envision and build this opportunity for Pierce County.
