Parent FOCUS Program

Parent FOCUS – Family Outreach, Connections and Unconditional Support

The Parent FOCUS (Family Outreach, Connections, and Unconditional Support) program supports families in the Aberdeen and Spokane areas who have been referred by the state for services designed to keep children safe at home and increase family resiliency. This program provides peer mentorship with parent leaders who have lived experience, who offer personalized support, encouragement, and connections to resources to help stabilize families. Participating in Parent FOCUS is completely voluntary.

When parents are supported and empowered, they become better equipped to provide safety and stability for their kids.

Our Vision Statement

The Amara Parent FOCUS Program envisions participating parents having support, safety, and opportunities to thrive through prioritization of family preservation and nurtured resiliency.

Amara Parent FOCUS Program Mission Statement

The Amara Parent FOCUS Program’s mission is to promote the safety and well-being of children and families through a trusting and collaborative partnership with experienced peer supports that are individualized, strength-based, and culturally responsive.

Parent FOCUS provides peer mentorship and resource connections to families in the Spokane and Aberdeen areas based on each parent’s individual goals and needs. Each parent is assigned an Amara Peer Navigator, a parent mentor with lived experience who has successfully navigated the child welfare system. The navigator helps educate parents on what to expect during the CPS (Child Protective Services) process and coaches parents on how to constructively advocate for themselves and their children.

Program Goals

The primary goals of the Amara Parent FOCUS Program are to provide peer supports that:

  • Help parents prevent removal of children from their homes
  • Coach and mentor parents so they engage in strategies to strengthen their families, promote healing, and increase safety for their children
  • Encourage parents to become their own change-makers and learn to positively advocate for their needs with individualized support from their Peer Navigators
